Crowded Places Strategy document

This document provides information on the National approach to protecting the hearts of our communities, detailing the various agencies involved and the importance of links and activities within partners and businesses

The aim of the Government’s counter-terrorist strategy, CONTEST, is to reduce the risk of international terrorism to the UK and its interests overseas so that people can go about their daily lives freely and with confidence.

As part of that strategy we need to develop our protective security to make it harder for terrorists to attack targets in this country. In July 2007, the Prime Minister asked Lord West to specifically consider how best to protect crowded places from terrorist attack.

The results of the review were announced by the Prime Minister in November 2007 and led to two draft papers which we put out for consultation in April 2009.
