BCM World Olympia London 7 & 8 Nov 2012 - our visitor tips
The BCM World event opens in November for two days starting on the 7th providing a conference programme and exhibition space, along with access to over free 30 seminars across three seminar rooms.
Attendance at the conference costs £975 (£875 for BCI members), but you can visit the exhibition space and seminars for free if you register as a visitor.
Its always difficult to pull out highlights when there is a lot on offer and the scope so wide, but we have suggested what we think may be some top tips for your visit for the conference and seminar programme.
Conference Programme Day 1
ORGANISATIONAL RESILIENCE - Our opening recommendation for the first day is in stream C with Dominic Cockram from Steelhenge and Charley Newnham looking at Organisational Resilience. Charley has written some interesting materials in the area and Dominic is working in the BCI Resilience Working Group. Their backgrounds are extensive, but quite different and with Resilience featuring pretty heavily in industry discussions and thinking at the moment we think their take on Resilience and how it connects with BCM should be very interesting.
EMBEDDING BCM IN THE ORGANISATION’S CULTURE - Next up we have something from the Lifecycle Stream where Ian Charters will be looking at how to get Business Continuity properly embedded into organisations. Ian has been very active in the design and development of ISO 22301 and the associated Guidance and his insight into the subject will doubtless be both practical and insightful.
For the last slot of the day we think Martin Caddicks session on MEASURING AND BENCHMARKING BCM PROGRAMMES is a good way to round off. One of the most consistent questions we are asked is how do you assess BCM performance and with this session Martin tackles the subject head on.
You can access the full conference programme here.
Conference Programme Day 2
The format and streams of day 2 is very practical and makes tips a little harder.
WHAT’S THE ROLE OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN BCM? is appealing and will look at the up and downside dynamics it introduces along with how Social Media Scenarios are different. This is followed up by CRISIS MANAGEMENT which looks at the key capabilities organisations need to consider.
If you are relatively new to BCM then Streams A & B will grab your attention, we like the look of DRIVING SYNERGIES ACROSS DISCIPLINES an area that is increasingly important. Unfortunately (again) this clashes with BCM AND THE OLYMPICS – LESSONS LEARNED which we suspect could be the stand out session of the conference.
Running alongside the main Conference there are 'drop in' seminars that you can attend for free as a visitor to the exhibition. There are over 30 of these and the full programme is available here
Seminar Programme Day 1
With 21 sessions its difficult to to pick the cream, but we'd suggest you try and get into one of the sessions looking at the Supply Chain and its relationship to Resilience. Its still a major area of development and lots of work still needs to be done in this area. Check out the 3PQ programme pages here for a bit more on how it can help you too!
We'd also suggest "Continuology – The Science of Evolution in the Business World" from Jim Birtles straight after lunch (Seminar Rm 2). Jim is one of the most experienced people around and his thoughts are well worth listening to. At the end of the day in Seminar Room 2 Laura Meadows of HTK is looking at busting some communication myths and this is likely to be not only interesting and informative, but knowing Laura fun too … a nice way to end the the day.
Seminar Programme Day 2
Paul Kirvans "The Roles of KPI and KRI in Business Continuity" in Seminar Room 1 at 9:50 should kick Day 2 off nicely and we'd suggest following this straight up with "From rogues to riches – reputation risk readiness" (the best title of the event!) from Link Associates in Seminar Room 2 at 10:30.
This then leaves a lot of choice before our last two recommendations that do unfortunately coincide at the end of the day. "Achieve Real Cyber-Resilience by Integrating ISO 22301 and ISO 27001" in Seminar Room 2 at 14:45 certainly addresses one of the areas many BCM professionals are having to face and "The benefits of taking a management systems approach" from the BSI in Seminar Room 3 will help you structure all the things you have learnt in the right frameworks to deliver Continuity and Resilience for your organisation…
You'll be able to meet us over the the two days with Sara, Russell and Jules all visiting and meeting up with various of our partners and members. So if you you'd like a chat just give us a call or mail us to arrange a time!
