Background on the Continuity Forum

For nearly a decade the Continuity Forum Team has been developing World Class Research and Analysis for the Continuity Planning, Disaster Recovery and Risk Management markets.

Originally operating to provide specific Market Intelligence and BCM research, the team his decision led to a major change in the scope of our activities and increase in focus on policy and development issues relevant to both Business and Government.

The Continuity Forum was created to provide research, support, advice and liaison to all types of companies, professionals and government groups interested or involved in the sector.

Our team is now acknowledged as the worlds leading research group on Continuity and Risk issues and our work has supported thousands of companies, as well as many regulators and Government organisations and media organisations in the UK and Internationally.

Russell Price receiving the Industry Personality award

In 2001, our chairman, Russell Price, received the Corporate Insurance & Risk and Business Continuity Institute ‘Industry Personality of the Year’.

So far the Forum has helped introduce and promote the principles of Continuity Planning to over 400,000 organisations, yet still more needs to be done to assist and support all the diverse interests in our rapidly evolving sector.

During 2001 the Forum broadened our activities engaging with many Governmental and Regulatory groups as well as trade bodies, supporting the ‘message’ of BCM and advocating a greater emphasis on planning and management through Business. With our support, these organisations are able to develop a better understanding of Business Continuity and its value, while we are able to provide and support a more consistent approach to the advice and guidance being delivered to the Business Community by these groups.

In 2003, we further expanded our activities introducing our highly acclaimed Events covering a wide range of topics relevant to the sector. These events have enabled thousands to access world class advice both directly from the Forum and our partners in Business and Government. Many of these have been provided completely free of charge and have been enthusiastically received with feedback from delegates consistently rating them as 'excellent'

Throughout 2004, we further extended our network of partners in Government and the Business community enabling many more effective connections to be developed and accelerating the adoption of BCM as a management discipline in many many organisations. As our network grew, we needed to adopt a formal structure for our policy and development activities and to champion this mission we were delighted to welcome John Sharp, former CEO of the Business Continuity Institute, to our team as Director of Policy and Development.

Sara McKenna was also promoted to the position of Programme Director in recognition of her contribution to the Forum and the industry in general. Russell Price was once again nominated for the 'Personality of the Year' at the prestigious CIR-BCI awards.

Over the past 3 years the team has been at the forefront of industry development working on the development and implementation of BS25999 and continuing to form partnerships with Business and Government.

The team is working hard to further support the profession with an exciting range of events and initiatives. Please do get involved as it is by listening to you that we can truly deliver the support needed to further the development of Business Continuity Management.

Finally, the next five years will be a vital time for professionals in our sector and the Continuity Forum is at the heart of our industries developments with partners covering virtually every aspect of the profession. The Continuity Forum pledges to be at the forefront of industry debate and development providing essential independent support, advice, services and research intelligence to the whole community.
