The Unseen work of the Continuity Forum
The Continuity Forum has for years been working behind the scenes to support the development of the profession, working every day to help ensure the development and growth of the sector. The vast majority of this works goes unseen, but has proved to be vital in establishing the value of BCM and gaining the ongoing support of business groups, media and government to promote and develop Business Continuity.
Every week we are working with people important to development of Continuity Management. Over the past year we have:
• Supported the development of Local Authority Business Continuity Planning
• Helped established BCM in various Police groups across the country
• Attended many policy and development meeting throughout Central, regional and Local Government.
• Delivered in-house support directly to Business and government groups
• Worked to promote BCM in the EU through Brussells and National Government Groups
• Delivered tailored workshops covering development to Business and Government groups
• Promoted BCM to and through other Professional groups
• Delivered various briefings on BCM to Business and Government Leaders
• Developed Research covering diverse topics for both Government and Business groups
• Directly supported individual BCM practioners with advice and guidance
• Worked on various committees covering Legislation and regulation
We have addressed 1,000’s of companies both through our own events and those of our partners in both Business and government.
Over the last 12 months we have not just been active in the UK, but taken our support, promotion and advocacy to Belgium, Ireland, France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Spain, The USA and South Africa. For years professionals have bemoaned the difficulties of getting organisational ‘buy in’ for Business Continuity Management to be really effective and through our activities we are directly addressing this need proactively and with energy.
We have consistently lobbied for Standards and greater focus on Public sector Continuity Planning as well as improved investment and focus on the discipline in all organisational areas. We have highlighted key issues such as the scope and depth of planning which often leads to omission of key continuity activities, and worked hard to raise the issues of salaries and pay in the Public sector.
We have strongly argued for the extension of BCM planning to include the effects and impact of Terrorist attacks, pandemics, Communications and Supply Chain failure, all of which continue to pose serious risks to the traditional BCM plan.
The Continuity Forum is engaged like no other organisation, working to support the profession and does so without bias or a commercial agenda. Independent, active and dynamic, we are driving the development of the sector … for you.
