Developing consulting opportunities
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As more and more organisations seek to implement Business Continuity Management (BCM) they are looking for help and guidance as to how this can be best achieved. These organisations do not necessarily have the appropriate expertise internally and they are looking for help and guidance from experienced practitioners who act as consultants.
The Civil Contingencies Act places requirements upon public bodies to establish business continuity for their critical activities and whilst having the expertise in emergency management, many of these bodies lack an understanding or capability to deliver effective BCM. A further requirement of the Act is for local authorities to promote BCM to the wider community. BCM consultants are in many cases assisting these bodies in meeting the requirements of the CCA.
Major customers and regulators are driving Business Continuity down the supply chain and SME organisations are recognising that to maintain their businesses in future they will have to implement BCM. Lacking the expertise in house they will look to others for assistance. The introduction of a new standard for BCM in the latter part of 2006 will be a key milestone and it is expected that the demand for BCM down the supply chain will increase considerably as a result.
Those seeking consultants to help with the introduction of BCM need to be able to locate appropriate consultants with the skill and experience to meet their requirements. The Continuity Forum is in a particularly good position to match supply and demand in this area via our web based Consultancy Signpost.
The Consultancy Signpost provides an opportunity for consultants to list their knowledge and expertise. Those seeking BCM consultants are able to search directly on line for appropriate services. This is a unique service for the industry. Continuity Forum widely promotes the availability of the Consultancy Signpost, and in addition its presence is listed in the Government Guidance Document, which supports the Civil Contingencies Act.
