Continuity Forum provides managed Forum service
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many of you will already have visited our Forum area, but have you actually used it - and do you know what it can do for you?

Unlike email discussion groups, our Forum software provides a host of easy to use functions and capabilities. Used properly it’ll be a very useful tool to help users and members Network with other professionals, share information and seek both advice and opinion.

But did you know we can provide special online forum groups just for you?

The principles of Forum or Discussion Board systems are straightforward and very easy to use. The first thing to appreciate is that there are two types of Forum Discussion Area currently available to you: Public and Private.

When you first visit the Forum (www.continuityforum.org/forum) unless you login in you won’t see much, but as soon as you logged in most of you will see the Public Forums. Think of these as individual meeting rooms that anyone can go into. Once you are in a particular Forum you’ll see a new set of heading or 'threads', each representing an individual topic for discussion or a question being asked. Clicking on any these enables you to see all the entries made (posts) and contribute your own to the topic. You can also easily share your own files or download others in a wide variety of formats such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF’s all with a few clicks. As we host the service we have set this up to overcome most of the restrictions you may have encountered on other lists. It’s virtually all point and click!

The other type is Private Forum areas. These are developed with a specific group, community or organisation in mind. Some use this for private discussions on issues that relate just to their planning, others use the system to archive information and/or develop materials within working groups. You can store your BCM plans or documents on the system in order to have an offsite backup, create your own user group or even extend the use of the system to give you an emergency notification system.

We make some areas completely open to all, but these tend to be ‘moderated’. This means we check the posts to make sure they are neither spam nor other undesirable material before allowing them to be seen by others. For most registered users and Members though we allow immediate posting where in real time you can see you comments appear on the board.

As your experience will quickly grow you’ll find yourself adding Emoticons and other controls to format and change the look and feel of your contributions.

This system has proven itself around the world to be both secure and reliable and our Forum Discussion area has some great little tricks built in:

A private messaging system
Integrated email capability
A ratings system
Document storage
Group email
An integrated broadcast capability
And it can all be customised to fit your needs by the Continuity Forum.

We’ll also moderate the group if you wish and can provide direct support and assistance should it be needed.
