“Ship Shape & Bristol Fashion”

From the reputation the Port of Bristol for preparing ships for sail in good order.

Business Continuity Seminar and Resilience Exhibition
Time: 09:30 to 15:00
Location: The Council House, College Green, Bristol

This special BC & The SME event is hosted by Bristol City Council, in conjunction with the Continuity Forum.

How well prepared and resilient are we now to deal with any emergency that may impact on our business or service to the community of Bristol?

Bristol is the regional capital of the South West and is home not only to many major businesses but also over 1300 small enterprises, providing employment for many hundreds of people.

Resilience is defined as “as the ability of the community, services, area or infrastructure to withstand the consequences of an incident”.

The seminar being held on the 11th May 2005 by Bristol City Council will explore:

· The role of the emergency services in an emergency
· The role of the local authority in an emergency
· The present threat
· What can businesses do to “be prepared”
· The role of the BBC in communicating in a crisis
· The support that is available to businesses
· The Civil Contingencies Act 2004

In addition there will be an exhibition of resilience equipment and personnel to demonstrate how well Bristol is prepared.

Communicating in an emergency. The Council with Avon and Somerset Constabulary have initiated an emergency communication system for businesses. See www.priorityalert.co.uk or visit Vocal’s stand at the exhibition.

This event introduces and discusses the real issues facing business today, and will cover topics ranging from IT Protection & Security, through the management of communications during a crisis, and the planning considerations that impact on the disruption caused by them.

New risks constantly evolve, and Businesses should now be considering an holistic approach to Continuity Planning. Our speakers will provide guidance and advice on the subject covering the risks and the positive steps that can be taken to mitigate the effects.

The leading Experts in the field are clearly stating that the risks to business are higher than ever before. For example, Government, the Metropolitan Police and MI5 all state that it is not a question of ’if’ an Terrorist attack will happen, but rather ’when’!

But Terrorism is not the only issue facing us today. This event removes the hype and focuses on the facts covering the current matrix of risks to business and highlighting why Companies have to ACT to build their resilience and Business Continuity Management plans.

Working with the Continuity Forum, Bristol City Council will show how to integrate the risk dimension into your BCM and ensure that it becomes just a part of your overall business planning.

In addition to our speakers, there will also be stands and demonstrations by various related organisations, with details to follow shortly.
