Introduction

Within the business community there is an increasing awareness of the impact of terrorism on every day life and business operations. With the ongoing conflict in Iraq and the tragic events in locations such as Istanbul and more recently Madrid, there is a heightened awareness and an increasing tension regarding the risks presented by modern terrorist activities.

As part of the Scottish Business Crime Centre Business Plan, it was identified that the business community would benefit from an event, focusing on the modern terrorist threat. This view is supported by the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS) Counter Terrorism Security Advisors Group and the Continuity Forum.

Aims

The aim of this event is to provide you with an increased awareness of the current terrorist threat and an understanding of the scale and potential impact that a catastrophic event could have on your staff and business.

Learning Outcomes

1. To provide you with an understanding and appreciation of the current terrorist threat to
mainland Great Britain.

2. To make you aware of the current concept of Counter Terrorism Protective Security Advice
and the recent developments at Governmental, National and Local level.

3. To provide you with an understanding of the scale, difficulties and issues that you encounter should your business or organisation be the subject of a catastrophic event, either directly from terrorism or other malevolent act.

4. To provide you with examples of good practice, recommendations and advice in relation to policy and procedures and make you aware of the legal implications of failing to protect or neglecting your business reputation.

5. To provide you with access to individuals and organisations who will make available advice, good practice and realistic solutions to Counter Terrorism Protective Security that is
commensurate with the risks.
